Embroidery

This recent embroidery work is an interpretation of my experience growing up. I have taken my school and family portraits from different points in my life and hand embroidered the images of them using silk thread. It is a commentary about growing up as girl and how that has evolved over the years. I use embroidery as the medium to mimic the samplers that young girls had to make in earlier centuries. This medium paired with the contemporary formal portrait is meant to create a dichotomy and represent how much things have changed for girls over the years.
