While earning my MFA at RISD, I focused on woven textile design and explored various forms of weaving, from simple to complex structures. My thesis project was a visual investigation into urban migration and the consequent limitation of urban dwelling spaces. I explored the means by which a designer can create fabrics that alleviate sense of confinement in cramped living spaces.
With these designs, I created a sense of openness in small urban spaces, while making a subtle commentary on the problem of overpopulation. I drew inspiration from the designs caused by population dispersion as seen from aerial views, as well as flight patterns and transportation maps. I also looked at urban landscapes and examined the paintings of artists who were successful in creating the illusion of visual depth. By using the Jacquard loom to create my fabrics and then grouping them into a cohesive collection, I successfully created this sense of space and commentary.

While I work in textiles for a living, I also find time for my fine art projects. I'm often drawn to texture and color, and in the case of my embroidery, nostalgia.

Like my other work, my photographic work is inspired by color, pattern and texture in the world around me. I often use my photographic images as inspiration for my professional and fine art work.
